Glass is made by smelting sand, desert sand (or any other item in the “sand” group) in a furnace. Glass is mostly use for decorative purposes, it is mostly transparent and sunlight goes through it unobstructed (as if it were air). It can be mined by hand, but pickaxes are faster.
