Mushroom spores were removed with minetest version 0.4.14.
In older versions, Red Mushroom Spores could be obtained by chance by mining a red mushroom.
Red mushroom spores can be placed anywhere, but only will grow on Dirt (no matter if with grass, snow or if cultivated or not), from which they will grow into a red mushroom eventually. Red mushrooms prefer to grow in dark places.
