Dirt with Grass blocks are found naturally above ground. Grass will grow on dirt if it is exposed to sunlight or bright light after some time. When dug, the player receives an ordinary dirt.

Trees, flowers, grass and jungle grass grow on it. Grass blocks can be made into soil using a hoe.

A dirt with grass block cannot be obtained by the player legitimately, only by using the /give or /giveme server commands.

This block will turn back into regular dirt if it stands too long in the shadow.
