Questa pagina è stata creata per fornire informazioni ad insegnanti, giovani e operatori sociali di tutti i tipi che vogliano usare Minetest a scopo educativo con bambini e ragazzi.

Dovrebbe contenere informazioni per i principianti, sia per docenti che per allievi. Quali sono le possibilità offerte da Minetest e quali i suoi limiti. Come usare Minetest in locale e come estenderlo con i mod. Come creare un server su Internet e proteggerlo da accessi indesiderati. In particolare per il lavoro con i bambini, curare che essi siano adeguatamente sorvegliati per facilitare una ordinata cooperazione.

I docenti che vogliano tradurre i testi in un'altra lingua ovviamente lo possono fare. E' anche possibile creare altre pagine nella propria lingua, che a loro volta possono essere tradotte. Come base, tuttavia, tutte le informazioni dovrebbero anche essere disponibili in inglese.

Info generali su Minetest

Minetest è un gioco libero di tipo open-world, per quasi tutti i sistemi operativi. In un mondo formato da blocchi e generato in modo casuale il giocatore può estrarre diverse risorse, combinarle tra loro e modificare il mondo a suo piacere. Minetest è molto simile ad altri giochi sandbox come Infiniminer e Minecraft. Il gioco non ha uno scopo o una conclusione, ma concentra l'attenzione sulla costruzione con i blocchi. Tuttavia è anche possibile creare un mondo in modo tale che si debbano raggiungere certi obiettivi a seconda delle preferenze. Tecnicamente il motore di gioco si concentra su due punti: il contenuto deve essere facilmente modificabile ed estendibile con dei moduli (mod) e il gioco deve funzionare su macchine vecchie e nuove.

Perché Minetest e non Minecraft?

Minecraft è molto più popolare e molti bambini e ragazzi ci stanno giocando. Perché allora usare Minetest? Ecco alcuni motivi:

Creare un server su Internet non è così facile come con Minecraft. Solo alcuni fornitori lo permettono e il server deve essere gestito manualmente in quanto non ci sono interfacce grafiche come per Minecraft.

Pro:

E' libero e gratuito, perché è open source e lo rimarrà.
Funziona su quasi tutti i sistemi operativi e i dispositivi.
Si può accedere agli stessi server da tutte le versioni (anche da tablet).

Perché passare a Minetest da Minecraft è facile

Quello che si fa in Minecraft in genere si può fare nello stesso modo in MT (a volte meglio o più facilmente).
I comandi sono quasi identici a MC, chi cambia non dovrebbe avere problemi.
Ci sono programmi per convertire i mondi Minecraft in Minetest.

Possibili errori per gli utenti di Minecraft

L'errore più grande che si può fare è di considerare Minetest soltanto per quello che si vede dopo l'installazione. MT non è (quasi) niente senza le estensioni (mod) e i mini-giochi (o sub-game). Gli sviluppatori sono molto riluttanti ad inglobare nuove funzioni nel motore. Ma estendere Minetest è molto più facile che farlo con MC se non si è totalmente incapaci con il computer.

In questa pagina dunque abbiamo raccolto informazioni per descrivere importanti miglioramenti che rendono Minetest un sostituto a tutti gli effetti per Minecraft. Ci vorrà certamente ancora tempo prima che qualcuno crei un'estensione che renda facile per i docenti con poca esperienza gestire un gran numero di allievi. Il fatto che dietro a Minetest non ci sia una ditta proprietaria ha certamente un impatto: gli sviluppatori creano quello che interessa loro, a volte meglio che in Minecraft, ma spesso con una certa mancanza di dettagli e di documentazione.

Questa pagina comunque si propone di aiutare i docenti interessati ad usare Minetest, raccogliendo tutte le informazioni necessarie. Le aggiunte di altre informazioni sono ben accette e tutti sono invitati a partecipare.

Scaricare, installare, primo avvio

Ci sono due modi di farsi un'idea di Minetest:

creare un gioco locale (giocatore singolo) e provarlo
visitare uno dei server elencati nella lista dei server pubblici

La prima scelta è probabilmente meglio per i principianti che possono così giocare con calma da soli. I server pubblici offrono esempi di varianti di Minetest molto espanse e variate; sono quindi adatte per chi già conosca il gioco ed abbia certe aspettative.

MT offre la possibilità di creare facilmente un server locale che può essere usato da altri utenti nella stessa LAN/WLAN. Questo è molto utile per le scuole o per incontrare altri in luoghi esterni.

Anything that Minetest doesn't seem to offer in comparison to Minecraft can be inserted into Minetest via an extension or modification, called Mod. That seems awkward, but it's so easy that it's no problem again. You just have to find the right mod.

Tipologie di Mod

The exact number of mods is not known. There is a list of more than 700 mods, but it is certainly not complete, because anyone can create a mod and publish it anywhere. The effect of the mods may be classified as following:

The user interface changes or other "machines" (like the oven) are offered which can replace the simple ones that are included.
New blocks are made available for constructions.
New materials (rock types, minerals, etc.) are created during the creation of the world, that can be used for blocks.
When the world is created, more or other plants and biomes (a local ecosystem with special dirt and plants) are created. Sometime you can use this new material to build blocks or items.
New items like tools to dig, hoe, chop or new weapons are added.
Mobs (self-acting creatures, in humans, animals or monster form) that can interact with the player are supplemented.
Change the environment completely (e.g. play on the planet Mars)
Prepared buildings will be added (villages with inhabitants, abandoned mines, pyramids, ...)

A lot of the Mods offer combinations of the possibilities.

Minetest offers a lot of mods, but there is no good overview showing the most important and big mods as well as the newest one. The following overview sorts some tested mods according to their meaning and provides information about the content and how to use them.

IMPORTANT If you want to setup a Server you should only have short view on the Mod-list to see what is possible. Some of decribed features can be even done by adjusting the server configuration. This will be described later. If you are a Singleplayer try out what you want and have fun.

Creare un server Minetest su Internet

If you want to work with a group of children it is a good idea to have you own Server in the internet.

So far there are not yet any good providers where you can quickly order and set up a minetest server. One reason for this is that the installation of mods is usually necessary and you have to access the remote computer. While Minecraft now has graphical user interfaces, Minetest requires everything to be done from the console.

If you have successfully installed the Minetest server and can also reach it with the local Minetest client, you should make some settings which are mainly about protecting the server from unauthorized access. This can be done not only by mods but also by settings in a special file.

If the server is set up correctly, it can start. If you share the server address or point to the server in the public server list, other users will come to the server and so it may happen that you have to intervene as an administrator. So here are some important commands and options you have as admin.

Now the server is hopefully perfectly set up and all players and the admin are pleased. Surely there is always something to do, many of those things can be done when you are on the minetest server yourself. But some things can only be done on the console and if you automate them, you can save yourself a lot of work.
