Lava is a liquid block that emits light and sets surrounding blocks on fire in case they are flammable. It harms the player by 
every second while touching it. Lava also has a drowning damage of 
. Lava also has a high viscosity, meaning the player can only move very slowly while in it. Therefore, falling into lava is often a death sentence, so be careful! Players can place lava only by using a lava bucket, which can’t be stacked. Lava usually appears in smaller or bigger lava lakes deep in the underground (→Biomes).
On a flat surface, it can flow up to a distance of eight blocks. If water or river water is next to a lava source, the lava source changes into obsidian. Flowing lava changes into stone if it is next to water.
